Department of Systems Biology Information Technology (DSBIT) is a core facility operated within the Department. We maintain one of the world’s largest academic computing environments devoted to research in molecular and systems biology.

Our primary mission is to support research at a number of Columbia University research institutes, including the Department of Systems Biology, the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Institute for Cancer Genetics, and the JP Sulzberger Columbia Genome Center. We also provide advanced computing services for clients outside the Columbia University research community.

Our infrastructure

Our computing resources are housed in two data centers totaling more than 3,000 sq. ft. of floor space within walkable distance from most of CUIMC campus buildings. Our facility has redundant air conditioning, and multiple 10 Gbps links to campus and Internet, and a 1 MW battery-backed Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system.

The HPC cluster has 6,336 CPU-cores, over 70,000 CUDA-cores (GPU), and 22 TB of total system memory, 6 PB enterprise storage, and 1/10/40 Gbps networking.
