Whole-genome gene expression profiling allows a detailed observation of mRNA levels. With more than 20,000 genes in the human genome regulated through complex feedback loops and pathways, determining the underlying mechanism and drivers remains a challenge. Linking large-scale gene knockdown studies to gene expression signatures can potentially lead to new insights into the underlying regulatory mechanisms.
